The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Exam Prep Course is a structured review program designed to help prepare students for success on their state CNA certification exam. This course provides a comprehensive review of both the written and practical components of the exam, ensuring that students are well-equipped to meet state testing requirements and transition confidently into the healthcare workforce.

Course Objectives:

  • Reinforce understanding of the core concepts of nursing assistant practice.

  • Review state-specific exam structure, format, and requirements.

  • Strengthen knowledge of patient care, safety, and ethical responsibilities.

  • Practice and refine hands-on skills in alignment with state competency checklists.

  • Build test-taking confidence through guided practice exams and instructor support.

Topics Covered:

  1. Role of the CNA – scope of practice, legal and ethical responsibilities, resident rights, and professional conduct.

  2. Infection Prevention & Control – standard precautions, hand hygiene, PPE, and safe handling of equipment.

  3. Basic Nursing Skills – measuring and recording vital signs, positioning, transfers, bedmaking, and feeding assistance.

  4. Personal Care Skills – bathing, grooming, toileting, dressing, and promoting independence in activities of daily living (ADLs).

  5. Communication & Interpersonal Skills – effective communication with residents, families, and healthcare team members.

  6. Safety & Emergency Care – fall prevention, body mechanics, fire safety, and responding to emergencies.

  7. Psychological & Social Support – understanding dementia, mental health considerations, cultural sensitivity, and end-of-life care.

  8. Practice Skills Sessions – step-by-step review and hands-on practice of skills required for the clinical portion of the exam.

  9. Exam Readiness – timed practice tests, study strategies, and guidance for reducing test anxiety.

  10. For those students needing BLS certification, BLS will be included.
